Job Description:
The TGen Foundation seeks a highly accomplished and innovative development professional to serve as the Vice President, Institutional Philanthropy. The Vice President will be a senior leader charged with identifying, developing and securing high-value partnerships with foundations and corporate foundations resulting in strategic and transformational investment at the regional and national level.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the President of the TGen Foundation, the Vice President will be accountable and responsible for securing mission critical and tactical, strategic investments that will sustain, enhance and grow the capacity and national profile of TGen.To accomplish this, the Vice President must be exceedingly opportunistic and entrepreneurial, developing and executing targeted strategies to secure donor investment and proactively position TGen as the leading institution of choice in accelerating genomics research into the clinical setting and rapidly translating discoveries into diagnostics, prognostics and therapies for cancer, neurological, metabolic and other complex diseases.
 
TGen pushes the limits of cutting-edge research and technology to discover the genetic cause of disease, and TGen scientists and researchers have an intense and urgent desire to move their research into the clinical setting and to the patient. To ensure their success, the Vice President will collaborate, consult and work closely with cross-functional teams of world-renowned engineers, geneticists, clinicians, biologists, and computational experts to build high-quality, long-term relationships with regional and national foundation and corporate foundation investors to accelerate discovery and improve patient health. This will be accomplished through strategic visits to institutional donors at the highest levels, on-site visits, meetings and other targeted interactions integral to solicitation, partnerships, and investment across TGen. These efforts will include broad and diverse constituencies, including executive leadership, volunteer board and committee members, administrative staff, and key partners and champions of TGen.
 
Because TGen's research leads to solution-milestones in the treatment of various conditions, conveying the value proposition of a particular research thread can be complicated. The Vice President will bring the ability to translate highly complex science, medicine, biomedical research and healthcare concepts into superior proposals and solicitations, requiring impeccable written communication and public presentation skills. The position requires the presence and ability to interact and communicate with a wide range of people in manner that inspires confidence and high trust. This will include research scientists, senior business professionals, biomedical and biotech industry experts, and philanthropic leaders, with an important distinction that the return to investors is measured not in financial terms but in terms of accelerated research and new treatment options.
 
The successful candidate will bring significant experience (8+ years) in development with an emphasis on major and principal gifts from national foundations and corporate foundations, as well as a background in leading a team and engaging diverse and complex constituencies. The successful candidate will have an established track record of securing principal gifts of $1 Million and above from national foundations and corporate foundations, serving as the primary institutional contact for foundation staff and trustees in a complex, dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.
 
The Vice President will possess a deep understanding of the national foundation and corporate foundation landscape and have strong connections across the field through professional organizations, networks and contacts. (S)he will demonstrate sound knowledge of trends in medical, scientific and biomedical research; clinical study and trials; and national healthcare and healthcare policy.
 
An integral member of the TGen Foundation’s leadership team, the Vice President will be responsible for leading by example and will be accountable for TGen Foundation’s institutional giving function to increase the level of involvement and financial commitment of institutional donors in advancing TGen’s mission. The Vice President shares responsibility for cultivating and instilling a culture of entrepreneurship, excellence, collaboration, high accountability and efficiency across the organization.
      

Education and Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in field appropriate to assignment and 8+ years of fundraising experience with direct and substantial experience leading and managing successful investments at the $1M+ level from national foundations and corporate foundations in a dynamic, complex and/or entrepreneurial organization or institution.
